Building a Rumford Fireplace...
Here's a picture gallery of my Rumford fireplace project. It was surprisingly straight forward. I bought the stream-lined throat and smoke chamber designed for a 3' wide by 3' high firebox. The flue sections are large, 12" by 16". Aside from making the tile and mantel, the rest of the work was basic construction and masonary.
Rumfords are designed to be tall and very shallow (about 14"). The logs are placed teepee style standing upright and when you get a good fire going, they really put out the heat. It lights very easily and with a good bed of coals, it will burn over night. It's like having a campfire in your living room.
I'll add more pics of the tile work when I find them...
